The Color Red The first thing that could symbolize the book To Kill A Mockingbird is the color red. The color red symbolizes many things including death and blood. The color red in this book is usually related to negative events. For instance, when Tom Robinson and Bob Ewell were killed, the color red could symbolize their death. They both represented blood because Tom was shot unfairly and Bob was stabbed to death. Overall, the color red is very symbolism in the events of the novel because of the reasons elaborated previously. The color red symbolizes many important things in the novel including the examples stated above.
The Mockingbird The mockingbird is an example of a symbol that represents peace and in the book it surrounds the idea of destroying innocence. A mockingbird represents peace because it's an innocent bird that does nothing more then fly around and bring joy and music as it chirps. Therefore,To Kill a Mockingbird is a sin because it's a bird that brings no harm to those nearby .In this book the innocent person that resembled a mockingbird was Tom Robinson who was convicted of rape and later on shot 17 times. Tom Robinson represented a mockingbird because he only brought help to others and throughout the book symbolized peace.
Closed Doors The closing doors symbolize illness and diseases. Such as the racism disease that spread around Maycomb. For example, when the mad dog came into town all the neighbors closed the doors which is a symbol of the disease because they're trying to block out the racism disease. At that time, the mad dog represented racism because he was different since he had rabies. Atticus was the only one who stood up to the mad dog because he was the only one in town who was brave enough. The closing doors also symbolize the Radley's place because they always maintained their doors closed and barely anyone came in or out and Boo Radley always stayed inside because he was staying aside of containing the racism disease that everyone in Maycomb had.
The Camellia The camellia white flower symbolizes racism from the whites towards the blacks. This flower was given to Jem from Mrs. Dubose, the neighbor in a box when she passed away. Jem was a gentlemen to her because she was old and sick as Atticus told him to be at first. Mrs. Dubose told Jem that Atticus was not any better than the blacks that we works for and defends. He grabbed a baton and destroyed all of Mrs. Dubose’s camellia bushes because of how angry after her racist offense against Atticus, his father. The white camellia that was given to Jem when she died, symbolized the sick and elderly like Mrs. Dubose as well as racism and the KKK. The white camellia flower represents a strong meaning of the sickness of racism of the rest of the example stated previously.
The Finch The last name of Finch symbolizes the passerine bird named Finches. These birds are very similar to mockingbirds in how they act because of many reasons. These birds are peaceful, diverse, full of joy, appreciative, and happy. The meaning of the finch bird symbolizes how the finch family is. Their last name validates that they are a peaceful, loving, diverse, and overall full of positiveness. This family is diverse because they act differently then the rest of the town since they are not racist. They care and help others in the Maycomb community even if they are different. For example, the relationship between the finch family and both Tom Robinson and Boo Radley determine how positive and non racist they are towards others. They treat Tom and Boo like any other citizen because they do not believe in racism towards Tom Robinson and do not listen to the rumors around town about Boo Radley.
